A wide range that is sure to baffle, from home staples like porcelain or ceramic to fragile options like glass tiles to bullet proof options like stone or quarry tiles, among many other types. Tiles are best used for washrooms or areas where water or heavy moisture is a potential problem. It is arguably the most tried and true method for water proof solutions. The installation on tiles is generally the most expensive of all the flooring types. From luxury homes to apartment properties, tile is durable and reliable for washrooms, kitchens, front foyers & laundry rooms. Tiles also fall into the category of mosaic tiles. Mosaic tiles can also be made of many materials with glass being the most popular and natural stone being a close second, etc. Mosaic tiles mainly used on top of kitchen countertops, washroom vanities and shower walls. Although tile sizes originally gained popularity in sizes closer to 12 inches by 12 inches. Tile sizes in more recent years come in fall under 12 inches by 24 inches or 24 inches by 24 inches. The biggest size you’d see these days would not pass 48 inches by 48 inches. Mosaic tiles sizing begins at around 1 ft by 1 ft but goes up to 2 ft by 2 ft. Tile finishes are a very important decision to be made as well. The finishes come in three main types; polished finish, honed finish, matte finish. Polished finish is the most flashy but also the most slippery. Matte finish is the least flashy but holds up the best when it comes to aiming for a non-slip flooring. Honed falls somewhere in the middle, taking some characteristics of the fancy polished tile while still maintaining some of the non-slip attributes of the matte finish. Tiles remain and will probably always remain a very solid option for anyone looking for a water-proof & premium application.
